I just went to the park for a walk. When I got out of my car and started on the trail, I thought, “Man, I shoulda brought my sunglasses.” That thought was joined instantly with, “I’ll Tweet that.” Then I realized I hadn’t brought my phone, or anything else I could access Twitter with. On [...]

I may be the only person on earth who actually liked “Never Gonna Give You Up” the first time around…and who still does. Nonetheless, I’m a sucker for a good Rick-roll.

The big day arrived. It was awesome!
I did make a trip to the store this morning. I decided at the last minute we needed a carrot casserole too. But we didn’t actually have carrots. So I went for those and came back with the fixings for ham rolls. I figured they’d be good later this [...]

The extravaganza begins here in the early afternoon. Watch for pictures tonight and tomorrow. I’m off to roast the roast, caramelize the caramel for the cheesecake, pie some pumpkins, and possibly casserole up some carrots. Oh, and to direct Ashby on rearranging the furniture to accommodate 18 for a sit-down dinner.
Poor guy. I’m not sure [...]

Rivals is doing a cool series on the U. Memphis Tigers…my second-favorite college basketball team. One video features Willie Kemp, who hails from my hometown of Bolivar, TN. If you don’t cook a lot, you might not realize how important it is to have the right tools. I have been suffering for almost two years now with bad graters, and it’s about to kill me. Here’s the one I want: the Microplane Extra-Coarse Grater. If you don’t own any Microplane, you are cooking [...]

The silver lining

I’ve thought long and hard, and I’ve come up with the only 3 good things about winter.

Thanksgiving
Christmas
Fleece

Seriously, can you really come up with any more?

Tomorrow’s it. Tomorrow’s high is 71 degrees. And then we’re down into the 40s. Yikes. Actually, when I read that forecast out loud a moment ago, with a tone of horror in my own voice, Ashby practically yelled, “Sweet!” He’s the most warm-natured person I’ve ever met. With the possible exception of the 9yo and [...]
