After the 3yo woke me up three times last night, I didn’t get up and off to the gym at 5 a.m. like I’d planned. So I didn’t have time to write my second econ post. I’ll get to it tonight.
Just a couple quick things for your perusal:
Compare the a.m. headlines at the New York [...]
Update: I don’t think either one of these two items are very good signs.
UPDATE 2: Want something a little more financially written, but very hopeful? Read this great column in the WSJ. Hat tip to Rex for the link.
Some questions and answers that have run through my head, and that I’ve discussed with friends, in [...]
A friend just sent me a link to this “nutrition” information for a large Heath shake at Baskin-Robbins. When they’re selling single drinks that total more than most people’s calorie requirements for the day, and more than half your sodium, never mind more than 2 days worth of fat grams, maybe we need to re-think.
This article in the New York Times today does contain some analysis, but the part I found most helpful was the explanation about credit default swaps — and why they’re like unregulated insurance — and why that’s bad.

Today in Nashville, we’re continuing our haze with lots of [...]
You would think I could remember this. But every time, it strikes me anew.
This morning for instance. We have a very strict routine in the morning. MWF, I get up at 5 a.m. and head for the gym. On MW nights, Ashby picks his clothes out the night before, so that when he gets up [...]
At work, my friend Barbara and I are in the same CSA — we’ve both been enjoying great produce from Delvin Farms all summer. New this year in the Delvin Farms boxes: Some of the most amazing potatoes I’ve ever eaten.
We were discussing today how we’ve both enjoyed the potatoes but have actually felt a [...]
I don’t believe in American exceptionalism.
I don’t believe the US is better than anyone else. I don’t believe we’re smarter, faster, stronger. I don’t believe our economy or our government is unique or even [gasp] the best one in the world.
I do believe that our democratic and economic systems are uniquely set up to encourage [...]
